Power Marketer
Job description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Power Marketer to support and grow our power trading and energy portfolio management efforts. This role will focus on short- and long-term electricity market transactions, helping us optimize asset value, manage market exposure, and participate in grid balancing opportunities across North America. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of energy markets, strong commercial instincts, and a proven ability to execute trades and develop relationships with market participants, ISOs, and utilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and optimize power trades in wholesale electricity markets (e.g., AESO, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ERCOT)
- Monitor real-time and day-ahead power markets to capture trading opportunities
- Develop pricing models, trading strategies, and risk assessments to support profitable decision-making
- Build and manage relationships with utilities, generators, brokers, and trading partners
- Provide insight into market rules, regulatory developments, and grid balancing mechanisms
- Support the development of new trading products, including renewable energy, demand response, and ancillary services
- Collaborate with the analytics, operations, and development teams to align trading strategy with asset performance
- Maintain compliance with all market, regulatory, and internal risk management requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in power trading, energy marketing, or electricity portfolio management
- Familiarity with market operations in one or more ISOs (AESO, ERCOT, MISO, etc.)
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; experience with trading models and real-time market tools
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, data platforms, and trading tools; experience with Python or SQL is a plus
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, risk-sensitive environment
- Experience in renewable energy, demand-side management, or capacity markets (preferred)
- Knowledge of environmental products (RECs, carbon credits) and hedging instruments (preferred)
- CFA, ERP, or similar energy/finance certifications are a plus
Schedule
Monday to Friday, with flexibility for real-time market monitoring
