Project Manager
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Project Manager to lead the development, execution, and commissioning of our new natural gas-fired power generation facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering the project on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders, managing a cross-functional team and overseeing all phases from final engineering through to commercial operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations. Lead the project through all phases: FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations.
- Act as the primary liaison for all internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, engineers, contractors, regulatory bodies (e.g., Alberta Energy Regulator - AER, Alberta Utilities Commission - AUC), local communities, and Indigenous groups.
- Own the project budget, forecast costs, approve expenditures, and implement rigorous cost-control measures to ensure the project remains within financial targets.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks related to schedule, cost, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk register.
- Manage the tender process, negotiate, and administer contracts with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) firms, equipment vendors (e.g., turbine suppliers), and major subcontractors.
- Champion a culture of zero harm. Ensure strict adherence to all company and regulatory HSE standards, policies, and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all project work meets or exceeds specified technical standards, design specifications, and performance guarantees.
- Provide regular, clear, and concise progress reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting status, risks, issues, and performance metrics.
- Ensure the project secures and complies with all necessary permits, approvals, and regulations (environmental, building, electrical, grid interconnection).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field). A PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is strongly preferred.
- 10 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years specifically managing large-scale ($100M+) power generation or oil & gas capital projects is preferred.
- Proven experience managing a natural gas-fired power plant project is a mandatory requirement.
- Deep understanding of power plant systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, balance of plant systems, and grid interconnection requirements.
- Demonstrated experience navigating the regulatory environment for power generation projects (experience with AUC and AER processes is a significant asset).
- Strong financial acumen with proven experience managing multi-million dollar budgets.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
